Persia, 12th Century AD. Seljuk period.
of oval form on a slightly flaring foot, with conical neck an trefoil spout and handle, the turquoise islamic kufic script through a black slip unqer Medieval Islamic art . Spout in the form of an oil lamp. Restorations: repaired breaks , neck , exept handle a complete piece. Rarity in this quality. Measures 13 cm height.


Provenance.: Art gallery New York , US private collection. Comes from an old collection that was exibited in 1940 in New York as " Persian Exhibition".

Provenance:
Purchased by the current owner in 2024 in NY gallery R.A.
Before that old private US collection formed in the 60'-90's.
Before then part of collection of Mrs, Christian R. Holmes (Bettie Holmes) collected before 1940.

Silhouette-wares mark the transition between the production of clay-bodied ceramics and the development of the underglaze painting technique in Persia. Stylistically the decoration of the group relates to the lustrewares produced at Kashan during the monumental period in the last three decades of the 12th century.
