Set of two antique cases with straw marquetry – 19th century – Napoleon III period
Description
Rare lot of two antique straw marquetry cases, dating from the 19th century, during the Napoleonic III period (circa 1850–1870).
These cases showcase refined handcrafted work, combining natural straw and dyed straw (violet, green, red), assembled by hand on a wooden frame.
The décors alternate between stylized floral motifs and geometric compositions (checkered patterns, chevrons, friezes), characteristic of the decorative aesthetic of the Second Empire.
The interior is coated and colored, a typical detail of feminine essentials and small objects of elegant use from this period.
