Description from the seller
Italian popular ex-voto painted on a wooden board, dated 1926, bearing the initials G.R. (Grace Received), typical of the votive tradition, referring to a miraculous event or a fulfilled request.
The scene depicts a faithful kneeling in prayer before a bench, while on the right an apparition of the Madonna recognizable from the iconography of Our Lady of Lourdes (white dress, blue sash, and joined hands) appears, surrounded by a clear aura. The composition, simple and narrative, is characteristic of ex voto paintings from Italian popular religiosity between the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
The work is executed with traditional painting techniques (tempera or lean oil) on a wooden support, with sober colors and a patina consistent with its age. The surface shows normal signs of aging, without invasive modern interventions.
Preserved within its original wooden frame, which is contemporary to the artwork, emphasizing its authenticity and historical value.
Object of private devotion, representative of Italian popular religious culture in the early 20th century.
