Antique gilded bronze frame with a miniature, dating from the late 18th to early 19th century (about 1750–1800), French, Directoire/Louis XVI period, 23 × 17.5 cm, in good condition with minor age-related wear.
Description from the seller
Gilded bronze old frame – Aristocratic miniature – Late 18th / early 19th century
Description
Rare antique bronze table support, finely chiseled and gilded, dating from the late 18th century or the very beginning of the 19th century (Louis XVI / Directory period).
The frame is topped with a pediment featuring a princely crown, surrounded by floral garlands and naturalistic foliage, finely carved. The borders display a beaded frieze and engraved motifs of great delicacy. The ancient gilding, probably originally applied with mercury, now offers a warm, uniform patina, highly appreciated by collectors.
It contains a painted miniature depicting an aristocratic family scene: an elegant female figure surrounded by children, dressed in typical late 18th-century costumes. The execution is delicate, with a refined treatment of faces, fabrics, and complexions, characteristic of salon miniatures from this period.
Signed miniature
The back is preserved with its antique silk featuring a floral decoration, as well as its original retractable base, attesting to a complete and authentic object.
