Description from the seller

Rectangular antique wooden frame with carved foliage decoration.

Period: late 18th century – early 19th century (around 1780–1820)

Rare and beautiful antique rectangular wooden frame, carved with rich foliage, scrolls, and vegetal motifs in high relief. The sculpture is deep and expressive, typical of productions from the late 18th century and the very early 19th century.

The wood, left exposed with an old dark patina (probably walnut or fruitwood), has a very decorative and authentic character. The side uprights and the upper crossbar are richly carved, while the lower crossbar features a more subdued decoration, balancing the overall design.

This type of frame was intended to hold a painting or a religious or secular scene of fine quality, and today it is a sought-after collectible piece for its expressiveness and antiquity.

Dimensions :

External dimensions: 34x44 cm

State:
Antique condition consistent with age: wear, small cracks, occasional missing pieces, and visible irregularities in the wood, without compromising the structure. Overall healthy and solid, with a beautiful original patina.

Style: Louis XVI / Directoire
Material: carved wood
Probable origin: Western Europe (France or Italy).
