Massive protobiface tool from the early Acheulean, made of flint/chert, dating to about 800,000 BP, with a preserved base and a size of 115 × 88 mm, in excellent condition, acquired in 2000 from a Belgian private collection with Belgian provenance and no restorations, accompanied by an authenticity certificate.
Description from the seller
Massive protobiface with a reserved base from the early Acheulean, a typical tool of Homo erectus who lived at the time. These tools are considered transitional pieces between the earlier choppers/chopping tools and the fully flaked/around-worked hand axes. A characteristic feature is the retention of a large portion of the cortex, and with only minimal flake removal still aiming for a pointed form. These protobifaces are not common in large assemblages. Made from chert/flint. Originating from Western Sahara, Seguiet el Hamra.
Few to no signs of use and in excellent condition. See photos.
No restorations
