Description from the seller

Attic door / shutter - Dogon - Mali
These shutters are intended to close openings in grain silos or simply domestic pantries.

Some are also used as wardrobes to store belongings belonging to the household.

These attics are often built with rammed earth and mounted on piles to protect against rodents and insects.

Generally, the motifs feature either scenes of creation of the world, as seen with the Dogons, or animal symbols, among others, which serve as warnings to discourage anyone from opening and appropriating all or part of the content.
