Notarial manuscript in Latin, titled Manuscrit notarial ancien en latin, 1st edition, 6 pages, circa 1680–1720, 26 × 19 cm, in good condition.
Description from the seller
Old notarial manuscript in Latin.
Complete legal act on paper – Western Europe
Late 17th – early 18th century, circa 1680–1720. 26cm x 19cm.
Important handwritten legal act in Latin, written on several pages of paper (a long and continuous document), related to the notarial and contractual practices of modern Europe (Ancien Régime).
The text is entirely written in legal Latin, following classical diplomatic formulas, with long sentences, chained clauses, deliberate legal repetitions, and conclusions validated by handwritten signatures and initials.
It is very likely a civil-type notarial act, possibly a contract or agreement between parties, an asset transaction, acknowledgment or waiver of rights, a succession, property, or obligation agreement, or an amicable settlement act (amicably composed).
The recurring legal vocabulary (forms of validation, waiver clauses, confirmations, perpetual commitments) is typical of notarial acts from the Ancien Régime.
Language: Latin juridique.
Fluid notarial cursive handwriting. Well-practiced, professional hand, with numerous common Latin abbreviations. Regular stroke, well legible for this type of document.
Support for old handmade paper.
Several handwritten pages (long act)
Continuous text, without illustrations.
Irregular margins, old cropping.
Signatures and initials at the end of the act.
Traits of manuscript validation.
Presence of brown stains, oxidation traces, and signs of wear, characteristic of legal documents stored and handled over a long period.
Paleography, the structure of Latin legal language, ink, and paper allow for a coherent dating between the end of the 17th century and the very beginning of the 18th century.
Typical period of the Ancien Régime, before the widespread adoption of standardized printed acts.
Old, unrestored document, wear consistent with age, legible text throughout, minor marginal missing parts possible, stable and authentic overall.
Authentic ancient Latin notarial manuscript, a direct witness to the legal practices of Old Regime Europe.
A long, structured, and signed working document, both historical, decorative, and collectible.
Photos are an integral part of the description.
