Original French manuscript judicial dossier, first edition, 6 pages, 28 by 18 cm, simple binding, in good condition, from the Ancien Régime (1723–1748), titled Très rare dossier judiciaire de l'ancien régime.
Description from the seller
Collection of judicial manuscript pages. 28cm x 18cm.
Ancien Régime – 18th century.
Civil procedure, obligations, accounts, and enforcements.
Original manuscripts on laid paper.
Consistent set of original judicial manuscript pages, related to a civil procedure from the Ancien Régime, most likely originating from a provincial jurisdiction (seigneurial or subordinate royal justice).
These documents correspond to memos, procedural writings, legal developments, and follow-up pieces, written in dense and rapid cursive handwriting, typical of the actual work of legal practitioners (lawyers, prosecutors, clerks).
These are judicial working documents, not decorative, not recopied, kept in their strictly functional state.
Legal content (synthetic analysis)
The sheets notably cover:
Civil disputes between opposing parties
Developments of legal arguments (facts, means, responses)
Questions of obligations and responsibilities
Examination of debts, payments, allocations, and claims, procedural follow-ups, replies, conclusions, observations. Repeated references to previous acts, supporting documents, and decisions.
The whole reflects a followed and structured procedure, with internal references, reiterations of arguments, and clear contentious logic.
Paleographic and historical interest.
Authentic judicial writings from the 18th century, quick cursive script, ligatures, legal abbreviations, erasures, additions, corrections during drafting, clear traces of manipulation in a real judicial context. These pages serve as a direct testimony of civil law practice under the Ancien Régime, far from isolated acts or simple receipts.
Support antique laid paper.
Grand in-folio format
Brown and black inks.
Old legal French language
Old tears, marginal wear.
scratches, stains, and dirt from use
Possible minor peripheral deficiencies
largely readable and exploitable text
No restoration, original condition preserved.
Authentic judicial manuscripts of the 18th century.
Direct source for the history of law and judicial practices, interest in collecting ancient manuscripts.
social and economic history, notarial and judicial studies, advanced genealogy
A richer and more meaningful whole than the isolated acts commonly proposed.
Lot offered as a complete set, strictly original, unassembled, unrestored.
The coherence of writing and content justifies a grouped presentation, ensuring continuous legal reading.
Photos are an integral part of the description.
