Description from the seller

An elegant pair of English Staffordshire dogs with gold accents and a graceful necklace – stately guardians of the house, crafted in a classic Victorian style.

This characterful pair of Staffordshire dog pendants is made in England and crafted in traditional glazed pottery. The figures are unsigned and unmarked, which is entirely customary within the Staffordshire tradition and does not detract from their authenticity or collectible value.

The dogs are designed in the classic spaniel type and are characterized by expressive faces, hand-painted eyes, long drooping ears, and a beautifully styled wavy coat. The serious, watchful gaze is typical of classic Staffordshire dogs and was deliberately used to emphasize their symbolic role as protectors of the home, rather than to showcase a playful or 'friendly' character.

The refined gold accents – on the collar, bell, and decorative chain – refer to status, care, and domestic protection. The chain is mainly found in more luxurious versions and clearly distinguishes this set from the more common variants without a chain.

Since the 19th century, Staffordshire dogs have traditionally been placed as a pendant pair on the mantelpiece. They symbolize loyalty, vigilance, protection, and connection. Due to their balanced composition and timeless appearance, they remain popular among collectors and enthusiasts of classic English home decor to this day.
