Description from the seller

Religious badge – Immaculate Conception of Mary – Bronze and wood – 19th century

Antique seal consisting of a turned wooden handle (dark brown patina), mounted on a finely knurled bronze stem. The oval matrix, also in bronze, features a beautiful relief engraving.

The iconography depicts: The Virgin of the Immaculate Conception, standing, with open hands, a radiant halo, deep and flowing draperies.
The relief is marked, typical of 19th-century parish seals.

The peripheral legend, readable thanks to the mirror image, indicates: 'To the Immaculate Conception of Mary.'

(Old spelling from the late 19th century, with 'Immaculée' sometimes abbreviated).
The presence of a small symbol at the bottom (cross or punch) is consistent with French religious engraving workshops from the 19th century.

Dimensions: height 11 cm; oval matrix 3.5 × 2.5 cm.

Dating

The set (Marian style, engraving, typography, wooden handle + bronze knurling) places the object around 1870–1900, a period of widespread use of parish seals dedicated to the dogma of the Immaculate Conception proclaimed in 1854.

State: Old and uniform patina, Virgin's relief still clear, legible inscriptions.

Interest

Authentic seal, a typical object of a parish, a Marian confraternity, or a devotion office, used to seal correspondence, blessing certificates, or internal documents.

Provenance: Private collection.

Photos are an integral part of the description of the objects and complement their presentation. They allow you to assess their condition and characteristics. Please examine them carefully before any commitment.

The item will be carefully packaged and shipped with a tracking number to ensure fast and secure delivery.
