Gold, silver, turquoise, and carnelian badge – Russia or England, circa 1820-1840
Rare and sumptuous baluster-shaped table seal, mounted in 18-carat gold (750 ‰) and silver, entirely set with natural turquoise cabochons and fine pearl friezes.
The gold octagonal base is finely chiseled with leafy motifs, supporting a blank cornelian matrix.
The ensemble, of great elegance, testifies to a work of goldsmithing of the highest order.
This type of seal, very fashionable among aristocratic circles in the first half of the 19th century, stylistically relates to the workshops of Saint Petersburg or London, around 1820–1840.
Dimensions: height: 7 cm - matrix: approximately 2.2 cm x 1.5 cm
Comparison: A similar seal in silver, gold, and turquoise, attributed to Saint Petersburg, was sold in London on November 26, 2019 (lot 375).
The estimate was from £5,000 to £7,000.
Condition: Very good overall condition, slight torsion of the attachment without impact on stability. No apparent punch mark.
