Antique seal in a faceted natural amethyst mounted in silver, featuring a cursive interlaced monogram 'JR' from the 19th century.
Description from the seller
Ancient amethyst seal with a carved mount in silver – monogram 'JR' – 19th century
Elegant desk or collection seal, dating from the 19th century, composed of a solid barrel of natural amethyst finely faceted with facets, displaying beautiful cloudy violet and milky zones characteristic of untreated gemstones.
The stone is perfectly polished, with significant volume and transparency punctuated by natural inclusions.
The base is mounted in a silver setting (not stamped but typical of 19th-century European workshops), decorated in relief with stylized botanical motifs: leaves, palmettes, and a central flower. It is a chiseled work, dense, and of a good level of craftsmanship.
The matrix, with a slightly rounded shape, is engraved with a 'JR' monogram in interlaced cursive-style letters.
Dimensions: Height: 8 cm - Matrix dimensions: approx. 2 × 1.5 cm.
State
Amethyst in very good condition, polished and shiny, with some small signs of use.
Silver case with a slight patina, consistent with its age.
Clear and usable engraving for use in wax.
Remarks
Authentic 19th-century piece.
Charm object, sought after for a collection of seals, desk accessories, or writing accessories.
