Set of two antique cornelian sealing wax seals – 19th century
A set of two carnelian seals, a semi-precious stone highly prized in the 19th century for making elegant desk objects. The two pieces are perfectly polished and carved from a single block, each in a different variety of carnelian.
1. Large seal (7.5 cm) in brown-orange cornelian – bronze setting – blank matrix
Mark with faceted volumes in a brown-orange cornelian, with internal, more milky nuances typical of heated cornelian.
Antique carved bronze mount with neo-Rococo floral decor.
The matrix is blank, with no engravings.
Small seal (4.5 cm) in orange carnelian – engraved monogram.
Seal entirely carved in orange cornelian, with sharp carving and regular facets.
The metal matrix bears a very legible monogram (cursive form, probably a letter C, G, or J depending on the angle).
Condition: very good, stones intact, perfect polishing.
