Description from the seller
Old heraldic seal – Bronze matrix – A. P. coat of arms – 18th century
Old bronze badge with a quadrangular shaft pierced by a transverse hole (an old system for attaching a wooden handle, now no longer in use).
The coat of arms show:
A shield quartered
• 1: figurative scene (difficult to identify precisely)
• 2: vertical furniture (probably a symbol of authority / handle / stylized bundle)
• 3 and 4: schematic scenes depicting a vegetal decor or a stylized landscape.
A profile helmet topped with a crest composed of a vertical weapon, such as a halberd or a command baton.
Very elaborate baroque lambrequins around the shield.
Initials A and P on either side of the crest.
The set is typical of private seals from the Ancien Régime (18th century), but without the full name, family attribution remains impossible.
Dating
Heraldic style: 18th century (possibly late 17th century).
Engraving, lambrequins, and barrel shape: French or Flemish handcrafted production.
Dimensions: height 5 cm; matrix diameter approx. 2.5 cm.
State
Missing part of the original (only the bronze stem remains), old patina, consistent wear, readable die, still deep relief.
Interest
Authentic heraldic matrix, interesting for collections of Old Regime seals, genealogy, or heraldry.
Object still functional for wax printing.
Provenance: Private collection.
