Antique French wall clock dating to circa 1837, with a French brass movement by J. Antique French wall clock with a Spanish dial – J. Mété – circa 1837
Description
Very beautiful antique wall clock from the first half of the 19th century. The clock features a French brass movement, made by J. Mété, and bears a personalized Spanish enamel dial with the inscription:
Pedro Ripardo – Maestro Sevilla Gelena – Year 1837
The clock features a classic 2-train mechanism with striking on the full and half hours, powered by a pendulum. On the back plate, there is the original round stamp 'Médaille de Bronze – J. Mété – Déposé', indicating an awarded and registered design.
The wooden wall cabinet has an elegant shape and is richly decorated with mother-of-pearl inlay, a finish mainly used on clocks intended for the Southern European market. The original glass door is present.
This type of clock was produced in France and finished and signed specifically for the Spanish market, which makes this version less common than standard French specimens.
