Two identical photographs (we believe in gelatin silver):

1.- A hand-signed PORTRAIT of Leni Riefenstahl from the 1970s.

2.- The same photograph with a signed manuscript on the back: a handwritten LETTER addressed to Herbert Tischendorf, producer of the Herzog Filmverleih, with whom she collaborated assiduously, written in October 1972 and sent after the historic attack at the Munich 1972 Olympics.

In the letter, Riefenstahl expresses her written thanks for a gift she received from Tischendorf and takes the opportunity to value the defence made by the English magazine Times of her professionalism as a director despite her anti-Semitic positions, very much in contrast to the Germans, with whom she feels offended and aggrieved.

The letter comes from the archive of Arnold Fanck (who died in 1974 and with whom Tischendorf maintained contacts since the post-war period). Riefenstahl made her acting debut in some of her mountain films, an idiosyncratic German genre in which she was an undisputed pioneer in the 1920s. At first, Fanck refused to join the National Socialist Party. But under pressure from Goebbels, she finally succumbed to the regime by cooperating with some fascist propaganda documentaries. A German collector obtained the letter in the 1980s.

Without a doubt, a historical document about the endless controversy about Riefenstahl's political position, a controversy that surfaces again and again when her aesthetic genius is valued.

Our assembly includes both pieces assembled (without adhesives) with a 3D effect on a digital print on adhesive sheet of a portrait of Riefenstahl. Frame with glass and in "box". Size: 31,5 x 22,5 cm.
