Large engraved copper plate, 470x595 mm at the fold (including white margins 540x625 mm), enhanced with contemporary watercolor coloring. Considered one of the most beautiful Dutch plates, with an astronomical theme. It depicts the northern constellations and the southern hemispheres in a single projection. The constellations are illustrated with characters from classical mythology, portrayed as if viewing the Earth from above, with their backs turned. At the bottom margin, there is a measurement table organized according to zodiac signs. Magnificent, with old restorations on the back, at the fold point, and an old paper repair at the lower margin. Very rare.
