Rated Excellent on Trustpilot.
Luristan bronze sword with a wide central rib and inlaid handle, 37.2 cm long, in good condition.
Description from the seller
Bronze sword or large dagger from ancient Persia (around 1100 BC).
It comes from the ancient Marlik culture, in the Gilan province. The pommeau is crescent-shaped and was formerly decorated with inlay made of a material, either wood or bone. Remnants of the inlay are still present.
The fusée is decorated and pierced to also contain inlays. The blade is wide, triangular with a broad, flattened central ridge. The patina is green with some shades of brown and interesting crystalline formations.
The few scratches on the blade suggest that this sword was used in battles.
The total length of this piece exceeds 37.2 cm. The total weight is 292 grams.
For more information on similar types, see 'Arms and Armor' by Manoucher Khorasani, pages 59 and 71. An almost identical piece is illustrated in 'Bronze and Iron' by Oscar Muscarella, page 102.
