Wax art, antique oval wax mirror with floral decorations – handcrafted, gilded, UNIQUE, VERY RARE FIND

An extraordinary and rare antique wax mirror with a richly decorated, handcrafted frame.

The frame is made from modeled wax on a solid support structure and has been gilded and hand-painted. The finely crafted floral ornaments – roses, violets, and pansies in delicate shades – are typical of the late Historicism and Art Nouveau periods, when floral motifs were very popular in home accessories.

The combination of wax coating and polychromy (multicoloration) gives the mirror a warm, velvety surface and a distinctive antique shine. This technique was primarily used in the 19th century for decorative household altars, frames, and small mirrors, as it allowed for fine reliefs that were difficult to achieve with wood carving alone.

The oval mirror itself is originally preserved and slightly tarnished, emphasizing its authentic vintage charm. On the back, there is a simple hanging mechanism.

Condition as well as mirror glass are completely new. All floral elements are fully preserved. Unrestored original condition.

Antique wax seals are rare on the market, as the material is delicate and only a few specimens have been well preserved.
