Description from the seller
Record No.1-5 (Reprint Edition)
Daido Moriyama
Publisher: Akio Nagasawa Publishing
Reprint edition of Moriyama’s classic first five issues of his Record (kiroku) series, originally published from 1972 to 1973. Inspired by Somerset Maugham’s quip that 'when it rains, you should write that it rains,' the five-part self-published magazine became a valuable insight into an important period during Moriyama’s artistic development.
At the time, I was busy with all sorts of work for magazines. Partly because of an inner feeling that I shouldn't let myself get carried away by everything, I came up with the idea of a small, self-published personal photo journal. Without any ties to work or a fixed theme, I just wanted to keep publishing a 16-page booklet with an arbitrary selection of my favorite photos from the pictures I snapped daily. By nature, it was primarily directed at myself rather than others. I wanted a simple, basic title, so I called it 'Kiroku' (record).
