Description from the seller
Islamic bronze ring – 12th/14th century AD – Ø18mm – 3.20g
This finely crafted Islamic bronze ring dates from the 12th to 14th century AD, showcasing an elegant design enriched with granulated motifs around a central bezel. The surface is adorned with raised circular patterns, likely symbolizing celestial or protective elements commonly seen in Islamic art of the period. Its compact form and subtle asymmetries suggest it was cast for personal wear, possibly serving both decorative and amuletic purposes.
The central bezel, now smooth with time, may once have held an inlay or inscription, now lost to age and use. Despite the loss of any specific text or iconography, the piece retains strong visual character. The craftsmanship of the ring—evident in the balanced proportions and rhythmic repetition of motifs—reflects the refined artistic sensibilities of medieval Islamic metalwork.
Material: Bronze
Dimensions: Internal diameter approximately 18 mm.
Weight: 3.20 g
Date: 12th–14th century AD
Condition: Good, with moderate surface wear and dark patina; some smoothing of details on the bezel, but structure remains intact and stable.
A graceful relic from the medieval Islamic world, embodying the quiet harmony and ornamental subtlety of a deeply spiritual artistic tradition.
Provenance: Acquired from an auction house in 2025, previously owned by a collector from the South of Germany, acquired in the 1980s.
