Description from the seller
Antique Christ corpus, carved from solid wood, executed in a sober yet expressive folk art style. It is a loose corpus (without a cross), originally intended for attachment to a wooden cross or for placement in a chapel, sacristy, or domestic chapel.
The Christus figure is depicted with arms outstretched and a subdued expression of suffering. The anatomy is slender and elongated, with a simple yet convincing carving style. In the face, hair, and loincloth, clear chisel marks are visible, indicating the work of a regional sculptor rather than an academic workshop piece. The sculpture was probably originally polychromed; today, the wood is unpainted and has a beautiful, warm patina that has developed over centuries.
The image is likely from the 19th century and is made of wood, probably limewood. The condition is antique and authentic, with signs of age and use such as cracks due to dryness, wear on details, and traces of previous attachment to a cross. No recent restorations have been carried out.
Dimensions: approximately 57 cm high, 37 cm wide, and 8.5 cm deep. Color: natural/brown. The sculpture is stable and suitable for display.
Carefully packaged and shipped; personal pickup is available by prior arrangement.
