Very beautiful Roman Terra Sigillata Amphora Vase, North Africa, Ceramic, Complete
Roman amphora vase in North African Terre Sigillée. 1st to 3rd century AD. African sigillée is defined as a ceramic produced in multiple manufacturing areas and workshops of the Proconsular Africa and Mauritania [Césarienne], from Algeria to Libya, with a central hub in Tunisia; belonging to a shared artisanal tradition that developed between the 1st and 7th centuries, of varying quality, fully or partially covered with a red-orange glaze, more or less smooth and shiny. Eastern sigillée production began in the 1st century BC and, replacing Italian imports, became very abundant in the 2nd and 3rd centuries.

Condition: Good overall condition, with some faint cracks and calcareous deposits.
Provenance France, private collection acquired from a gallery/antique dealer. Previously part of an old French collection of Roman ceramics, private collection.
