Marine scene of the Bosphorus near the Black Sea and two depictions of VALENS AQUAEDUCT, one of the most famous sites in Istanbul, dating back to Roman times, nowadays also known as "BOZDOGAN KEMERI BRIDGE"
Drawn from nature by the famous Dutch traveler and topographer Cornelis de Bruyn (1652-1726) this is an accurate depiction of the late 17th century, when the aqueduct was at the outskirts of Constantinople, while in modern times it was integrated as a bridge in the center of Istanbul.
FIRST EDITION., dated 1698. Published in " Reizen van Cornelis de Bruyn...".
While untitled only in this first edition, later editions would have the title "Aquidotto" and minimized the images.
RARE LARGE PAPER EDITION with exceptional large margins.
Size of the illustrated area : 36.5 x 27cm. Whole sheet with original fold: 48,5 x 39cm.
Strong paper quality, clear imprint of the etching. Margins with light foxing, not affecting the image. With 1 tiny whole in the left margins.
