A small green translucent blown glass vase from Bohemia by Johann Loetz Witwe, circa 1900–1905, 8.5 cm high and 7.6 cm wide, with four hot‑formed teardrop appliqués at the mouth and a matte iridized finish from the Creta mit Silberiris series.
Description from the seller
Johann Loetz – Vase 'Crete with Tears' – Bohemia, circa 1900–1905
Height: 8.5 cm
Maximum width: 7.6 cm
Delicate small-format vase made of green translucent blown glass on a colorless background, with a gently bulging body and an elegantly flared mouth.
From the mouthpiece, four hot applications descend in the form of drops or 'teardrops', executed in the same green tone, which provide vertical rhythm and a pronounced organic character to the composition, reinforcing its modernist aesthetic.
The piece features a matte iridescence, homogeneous and silky, characteristic of productions belonging to the series known as 'Creta mit Silberiris' or 'Creta with tears,' developed by the prestigious glassworks Johann Loetz Witwe, established in Klostermühle (Bohemia).
A datable artwork created around 1900–1905, during the height of Central European Art Nouveau.
A vase of modest size but of high collector interest, representative of Loetz's decorative sensibility and its extraordinary mastery in the treatment of iridescent glass at the beginning of the 20th century.
