Roman oil lamp in brown engobe ceramic with a circular reservoir, round nozzle, ribbed pierced handle, a concave disc with a high relief eagle standing on its feet, and the potter’s mark "M.NOV.IVSI" under the base for Marcus Novius Iustus, dating to the 2nd century AD and in good condition.

Roman ceramic oil lamp with brown slip. Circular reservoir, round spout, grooved handle pierced with a large hole.
The disk is concave, outlined by two circles. It is decorated in deep relief with an eagle standing on its legs.
Under the base, a potter's grave "M.NOV.IVSI.", for Marcus Novius Iustus
Perfect condition - no restorations
Dating: 2nd century AD (120/180 AD).
Origin: France, P.D.S gallery.
Previously: old French collection, Mr. Paul Lièvre.
