Description from the seller

Baroque carved wooden putto and atlas

Austria / Bavaria, circa 1900

Provenance: Private collection
Region: Central Europe (Austria / Bavaria)
Period: Baroque, c. 1900
Carved wood
Style: Central European Baroque

Large Baroque-style solid wood figure representing an Atlantean putto, conceived as a supporting figure for a small upper corbel carved with a wavy profile. The sculpture exhibits the characteristic modeling of Central European Baroque around 1900: robust child anatomy, large expressive head, prominent belly, and an upward posture typical of figures designed to support decorative elements.

The wings, carved with deep and irregular feathers, refer to the Bavarian and Tyrolean workshops of the full Baroque period. The ancient patina, naturally darkened and with homogeneous oxidation, confirms a chronology consistent with the late 19th century.

It presents small old losses on hands and extremities, common in sculptures of this use and period.

Condition: Good, with old losses and original patina.
Measurements: 24 × 20 cm
Shipping: Only to European countries.
