Description from the seller
Very beautiful original Coca Cola crate with 24 original iconic contour bottles.
This box is truly in outstanding condition and shows very few signs of use and age.
This crate comes from the United States and was produced in 1977 for the Coca Cola bottling plant in Chattanooga - Tennessee.
This crate has always been part of a collection and has always been kept in a glass display case in a pet- and smoke-free home away from direct sunlight.
This is also the reason why the crate is in such excellent condition and shows almost no damage or signs of use and age.
The crate is filled with 24 so-called 'Contour bottles' of Coca Cola.
The contour bottle was the result of a design challenge that The Coca-Cola Company posed to glass manufacturers in 1915.
The main features of the design and its history are:
Inspiration:
The design team of Root Glass Company, led by Earl R. Dean, was inspired by an illustration of a ridged cacao bean pod in an encyclopedia. They mistakenly thought that cacao was an ingredient.
Original objective
The company wanted a bottle that was so unique it could be recognized in the dark, or even if it was broken on the ground. This was an important innovation compared to the bottles with straight sides that all soft drink companies used at the time.
Development
A prototype was made with an exaggerated middle section, but it was unstable on conveyor belts. Dean refined the design by reducing the middle diameter to create the final, stable, and ergonomic shape we know today.
Cultural icon
The bottle, described by industrial designer Raymond Loewy as the 'perfect liquid container,' has become a global cultural icon, found in the art of artists like Andy Warhol and Salvador Dalí. In 1961, the bottle shape received a trademark from the American patent office, a rare distinction for packaging.
The photos provide a good view of the condition of the crate and the bottles and are part of the description.
The crate and the bottles are carefully packed and shipped in a sturdy box with a reputable courier service that provides a track and trace code.
