Roman oil lamp in brown engobe ceramic with a circular reservoir and a high-relief bust of Selene on a crescent moon, the potter’s mark SVRTEPI, dating to the 2nd century AD.
Description from the seller
Roman ceramic oil lamp with brown slip. Circular reservoir, round spout, grooved handle pierced with a large hole.
The disc is concave, bounded by two circles. It is richly decorated with a bust of Séléné in high relief on a crescent moon.
Under the base, a pottery park 'SVRTEPII'.
This name appears for the first time in Dacia. It is attested in Italy, where it appears in several variants, such as SVRTEPI, to be read as SYRTEPI, or SVRIEPIE. The variant SYRTEPI, to be read as SYRTERI, also appears in the collection of the Mainz museum.
A similar model is exhibited at the Louvre Museum.

Very good state of preservation - slight restoration
Dating: 2nd century AD (120/180 AD).
Provenance: Collection of architect K.-H. S. (1926-2017), Cologne, acquired between 1966 and 1971 from Van Ham, Cologne.
