Description from the seller

Northern Netherlands – Dutch Republic (1581–1795)
West Friesland, Leeuwendaalder, Enkhuizen 1604

Beaten in a Dutch manner.
Mint mark: rose.
Mint Master: Caspar Wijntgens.

Front side; Standing lion facing left, with sword and bundle of arrows, within inscription.

Keel side: Crowned provincial coat of arms of West Friesland; the year 1604 in the fields on either side of the coat of arms.
Our strength, God.
God is our strength

Rare regional lion dollar from West Friesland. Between 1597 and 1605, this type was struck with the distinctive reverse legend FORTITVDO NOSTRA DEVS, instead of the usual CONFIDENS DNO NON MOVETVR. From 1604 onward, the year was no longer placed under the coat of arms but in the fields beside the provincial coat of arms. In 1606, this provincial type was replaced by the generality type.

Rare specimen of this scarce type.
