Set of 2 Napoleon III tea boxes – Rosewood and magnifying glass – 19th century
Set of two French tea boxes dating from the Napoleonic III period, around 1860–1880. These cases illustrate the decorative refinement of the Second Empire through the use of precious woods, marquetry, brass, and mother-of-pearl. Tea boxes from this era were intended for storing loose tea. The interior metal linings are often missing or incomplete on this type of antique object.
Rounded tea box made of rosewood
Wood: rosewood
Decor: geometric marquetry in chevrons and lozenge panels.
Shape: curved, typical of the Napoleon III style.
Ornamentation: studded brass net following the curvature.
Lock: present, key absent.
Interior: missing lining and interior compartments.
Dimensions :

Condition: very beautiful exterior presentation, well-preserved marquetry, homogeneous antique patina. Interior empty, with a long-standing absence of lining and compartments.
Rectangular tea box in ronce or loupe with nacreous cartridge.
Bramble or loupe, probably walnut or mahogany.
Decor: central cartouche adorned with mother-of-pearl, marquetry surround.
Shape: rectangular
Ornamentation: brass fillets
Missing: two brass strips and the lock cover are missing (see photos).
Interior: compartmentalized with old metallic lining, visible wear.
