Description from the seller

Splendid painting created in the early nineteenth century (probably an ex-voto) depicting the iconography of the Madonna of the Rosary, likely the so-called 'Madonna of Pompeii'.
The Virgin Mary, seated with the Child Jesus on her knees, offers a rosary to Saint Dominic, who kneels to her left. The Child, in turn, offers a rosary or his hand to Saint Catherine of Siena, who is kneeling to the right.
These representations were very common in the early 19th century, created with mixed techniques, like this one, where cut-out sacred images are mounted on wooden panels with subsequent insertions of silvered sheets to embellish the work and add shine to the saints' garments. To complete the religious icon, there are hand-painted crowns, as well as the rosaries given to the two saints and the folds of the garments.
The 33x42 cm artwork is accompanied by a splendid 50x60 cm wooden frame, probably from the 18th century, in excellent condition, with floral decorations.
On the back, a name appears ('Nicoli Luigia Caleppio'), probably the religious devotee of the work.
An ancient sacred image of great spirituality, with a strong visual impact also thanks to its antique frame.
