The Campo del Cielo meteorites are fragments of a massive iron meteorite that fell to Earth approximately 4,000-5,000 years ago in what is now Argentina. This event created a large scattered field in the provinces of Chaco and Santiago del Estero, covering an area of about 60 square kilometers.
The name Campo del Cielo was given by the first Spanish colonists who learned of the site from the indigenous people.
