Description from the seller

Male statuette – Bembe – Republic of the Congo. Ex collection Dr Jolly.

Superb masculine Bembe statuette sculpted in a hard wood with a deep honey-brown patina.
The figure, short and powerfully built, stands out by:
An expressive face with a prominent jaw and a triangular beard.
Eyes embedded with white porcelain, symbols of clairvoyance.
A belly adorned with geometric motifs engraved to resemble ritual scarifications.
Arms bent and fists clenched, typical of representations of protective ancestors (Bimbi).
The hole at the lower back for the load.

This sculpture, with a simple and balanced style, expresses the spiritual strength and symbolic density of Bembe art.
An ancient crack visible at the back, stabilized, without structural fragility.

Piece of fine quality, representative of Bembe sculpture, marked by the tension between formal power and mystical interiority.
