Oil lamp in sigillataware decorated with a leaping dog, dating to the 4th century and reflecting late Roman to proto‑Byzantine culture, titled Lampe à huile en sigillée ornée d'un chien bondissant - 4ème siècle.
Description from the seller
Rare Christian oil lamp in slip-decorated ware adorned with a jumping dog.
Oblong reservoir, large canal with straight edges, open onto the disk, two symmetrical bands decorated with a frieze of interlocked and alternating triangles. The handle is full, triangular, and tilted backward. A canal with straight edges connects to the disk. The disk is decorated with a leaping dog, probably a greyhound.
The annular base is connected to the loop by a ridge, all in the shape of a handle. Under the base, at the center, two hollow circles.
Dimensions: length 14.3 cm - width 9.1 cm
Lamp in perfect condition. - no restoration - some calcium deposits
Roman Empire / Byzantine, 4th-6th century.
