Description from the seller
Pair of carved and gilded wooden chairs, Louis XV style, early 20th century – France
Exquisite pair of chairs made during the first quarter of the 20th century, following the classic French Louis XV style. Carved and painted wood in gold with an aged effect. The seat and backrest are upholstered in a muted olive green satin, thanks to the fabric's sheen. The backrest features capitoné upholstery. The original style dates from the 18th century and is characterized by curved shapes, contrasting with the more rigid styles that preceded it. In this chair, a modern adaptation is observed, maintaining the elegant character but with a more subdued interpretation, evident in the slightly oval backrest and curved legs.
More about the Louis XV Style
The Louis XV Style is an artistic style, especially present in decorative arts, that developed during the reign of Louis XV (1715-1774). Initially, the term 'Louis XV Style' referred to a characteristic type of chairs, but it soon extended to all arts of the period. This style was created by cabinetmakers as a result of significant technical advances in wood furniture manufacturing. It is associated with the architectural style called Rococo. Like Rococo, it features abundant decoration and detail, in contrast to the later 'Louis XVI Style,' which is more simple in trend.
