Description from the seller
Pair of iconic Maralunga 2-seat sofas, designed by Vico Magistretti for Cassina, 1970sWe offer for sale a rare pair of two-seat Maralunga sofas, authentic vintage pieces produced by Cassina in the 1970s, designed by the master of Italian design Vico Magistretti in 1973. This model, winner of the Compasso d'Oro in 1979, represents one of the absolute masterpieces of modern design, still in production today and celebrated worldwide for its innovation and timeless comfort. The sofas are upholstered in the original light brown (or warm beige) corduroy velvet, a fabric typical of the era that gives an elegant soft and enveloping texture, with that characteristic “corduroy” effect that captures light in a refined way and adds a sophisticated retro touch. The velvet condition is excellent for its age, with a natural vintage patina that enhances its authenticity – any signs of use are minimal and testify to the quality of Cassina materials. The ingenious feature of the Maralunga is the independently adjustable backrest for each seat: thanks to an internal mechanism (inspired by a bicycle chain integrated into the foam), simply tilt it to move from a low, relaxed position to a high one with a headrest, creating an incredibly comfortable “cocoon” effect. Steel frame, polyurethane foam padding, and black plastic bases, standard dimensions for a 2-seater (approximately 166-170 cm wide x 95 cm deep x 70-100 cm adjustable height). Perfect as a pair to furnish a mid-century living room, to be used together or separately. An investment in timeless design, ideal for collectors or lovers of authentic Italian vintage.
