Historical Context
By AH 350, the Buyid dynasty had firmly entrenched itself as the dominant power in much of Iran. Founded by three Daylamite brothers in the early 4th century AH, the Buyids were a Persianate, Twelver Shi‘a ruling house who governed under a system of overlordship: each brother or son ruled a major region, but acknowledged the senior family member as amīr al-umarā’ (“commander of commanders”).
During this period, ‘Adud al-Dawla Abu Shuja’ Fanakhusraw served as the Buyid ruler of Fars and adjacent territories. Although still under the suzerainty of his father, Rukn al-Dawla, ‘Adud al-Dawla had already begun to demonstrate the political skill and administrative talent that would later make him the dynasty’s greatest ruler. His early administration in the 340s–350s AH laid the groundwork for the vast public works and political consolidation that later defined his reign.
The mint city Arrajan, was in Fars province. Fars was an important commercial hub on the route linking southwestern Iran to Iraq
