Box - Wood, Straw marquetry

Antique wooden box covered with straw marquetry, dating from the Empire period at the beginning of the 19th century.

The lid is decorated with a figurative motif depicting an eagle, a characteristic emblem of the imperial period, framed by a geometric border.

Straw marquetry, a delicate and luxurious decorative technique, was particularly appreciated during the Empire period for small tablet work and cabinet objects.

The box would be beautifully restored; the hinges are in poor condition, with visible missing parts...

Despite its condition, this box retains real historical interest.

It's probably a box of tea.
