Amber from the Republic of Santo Domingo is the fossilized resin of a leguminous plant, an extinct species similar to the acacia, which was originally very fluid and transparent. For this reason, all Dominican amber is naturally transparent; furthermore, nature has designed these ambers, between thirty and forty million years old, to appear in a rich and evocative array of colors: yellow, red, orange, and, very rarely, blue-violet and deep green.
