Located in the north-west of the Pauillac appellation, Château Mouton Rothschild is one of the five First Growths of the Médoc. Acquired by the Rothschild family in 1853, the estate became a Premier Grand Cru Classé in 1973, the only revision of the historic 1855 classification.
Under the leadership of Baron Philippe de Rothschild, the château pioneered major innovations, including estate bottling from 1924 and the creation of artist-designed labels, a tradition that continues to this day. Mouton Rothschild is renowned for its powerful, opulent wines, dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon, and for its exceptional ageing potential.
The estate’s 91-hectare vineyard is planted on deep gravel soils in Pauillac, and vinification is carried out using gravity-flow techniques, followed by ageing in new oak barrels. Today, the Rothschild family continues to uphold this legacy of excellence and innovation.
