Description from the seller

Detailed head fragment of the Teotihuacan culture in Mexico.

Size with stand 10cm.

Along with a richly decorated headpiece and deep, expressive eye sockets, the head features an open mouth with visible teeth. Everything is harmoniously coordinated, giving the face a lively expression. In Teotihuacan, during its heyday, there were neighborhoods where different cultures from Central America resided. This head likely originates from an area with a strong Zapotec influence, as the facial features resemble Zapotec ceramic figures and vessels. Usually very stylistically modeled and shaped, this head has beautiful details and distinctive forms and patterns.

The condition is good due to age, probably broken ritually and later repaired.

Origin, Mexican private collector, acquired in the 1970s, Stendahl Gallery, USA, acquired in 1994, on invoice with no. 6.
