An extraordinary form in rich black color with exceptional details.

Form
Carved with a chainsaw from a single piece of solid ash wood, hand finished. Tanned with fire (yakisugi), stained with a natural 'rich black' stain, and waxed with natural wax.

Ash wood is an ideal material for creating extraordinary objects. It has a unique, highly expressive grain. It is hard, durable, and extremely flexible.
Method
Yakisugi (焼杉) is a traditional Japanese method of wood preservation. By slightly charring the surface of the wood without burning the entire piece, the wood becomes waterproof through carbonization and is thus more durable. It also provides protection against insects and makes the wood fire-resistant.
