Two antique altar crucifixes – 18th & 19th century – Brass / Bronze – Rare set
This special set consists of two altar cross images, one of which is an exceptionally early example – the left cross – dated around 1750–1800. This makes it a 18th-century, early religious art object, a type that rarely appears on the market in such complete and authentic condition.
The left crucifix features a tall, tapering cross, with early brass casting technique, a primitive yet expressive Christ figure, and a heavily detailed foot with three legs. These early forms, proportions, and the hand-cast surface are typical of the 18th century and testify to genuine craftsmanship.
The right crucifix is a 19th-century example, also made of brass, with fine relief, a skull symbolism on the trunk (Memento Mori), and an elegant three-legged base. Together, they form a beautiful dialogue between two periods of European devotional art.
