Description from the seller
Magnificent Art Deco ceramic figurine of a Lady “Dancer with Veil”, designed by the famous artist Stephan Dakon for Keramos – Wiener Kunstkeramik und Porzellanmanufaktur Austria, in perfect condition.
It depicts a beautiful lady dressed in a long lilac dress with burgundy corsage and pink ballet shoes with laces. She is graciously performing a dance act while barely holding a mint veil in her hands. Hand painted and glazed to perfection, it stands on an oval base.
Stephan Dakon (1904 - 1992) was a famous Austrian ceramist and sculptor. While attending Arsenal Art foundry in Vienna he became friend with Josef Lorenzl who arranged for him a position at the Friedrich Goldscheider manufactory.
Dakon worked there on a royalty-paying basis and, over time, developed into one of Goldscheider's most productive and important designers.
After the war, he designed for “Keramos Wiener Kunst- Keramik”, “Hertwig Katzhütte” and “Kunstkeramik Adolf Prischl” (with whom was also friend), being described as one of the most important designers of wall masks.
The company Keramos – Wiener Kunstkeramik und Porzellanmanufaktur (Viennese Art Ceramics and Porcelain Manufactory) was founded in 1920.
After Worl Worl II, Anton Klieber and Rudolf Podany continued to work as ceramicists and new artists such as Josef Lorenzl and Stephan Dakon, both of whom had previously worked for Goldscheider, as well as Rudolf Chocholka, Karl Grössl, and Ina Eisenbeisser, were also hired. New models emerged, such as dancers, children's figures, animals, and nudes.
Reference: Matschiner, Keramos, p. 546.
It is in excellent to perfect condition, Keramos “Coat of Arms”/“Werstappen” marked on the back of the base, incised numbered #2122, artist Dakon marked beautifully sculpted and glazed, NO chips, NO cracks and NO repairs, please see the pictures as they are part of description.
