Buynuz (Horn) carpets are woven in various sizes. In the 18th and 19th centuries, Buynuz carpets were also found within the Khali Gaba carpet assemblage. Knot density: 30x30 to 36x36 knots per square decimeter (90,000-150,000 knots per square meter). Pile height: 7-9 mm. Buynuz carpets are considered among the finest and most prized carpets of Karabakh.
In ancient times, horned animals were considered sacred in Central Asia, the Middle East, the Caucasus, and Azerbaijan. Initially associated with the home and harvest, and later with totemism and astronomical concepts, horned animals held a different perception and symbolism. Since antiquity, the horn has been considered a symbol of masculinity, bravery, and courage.
