Description from the seller

Rare antique wooden armchair / folding chair with armrests and original rattan weaving, circa 1900.

Description of resemblance to a safari chair. Very rare antique armchair in folding chair design, made of solid wood and featuring an original handwoven rattan (cane) seat and backrest.

This type of adjustable/folding armchair was used around the turn of the century as a comfortable reading and relaxation chair and is considerably less common than standard wicker or Thonet models.

The furniture features a thoughtfully designed wooden folding and hinge system, characteristic of functional furniture designs from late 19th and early 20th-century West-Europe. The combination of armrests, a folding mechanism, and original weaving makes this a special and collectible object.
