Olivetti Praxis 48 typewriter from 1964, designed for Olivetti by Ettore Sottsass in collaboration with Hans Von Klier, made in Italy with aluminium, steel and plastic parts in a postmodern design, green and grey, weighing 9.2 kg, sold as untested and to be serviced.
Description from the seller
Rare typewriter model 'Praxis 48' produced by Olivetti in 1964, designed by Ettore Sottsass in collaboration with Hans Von Klier.
Small series product model, hard to find, suitable as an investment for collectors or lovers of Italian design.
Composed of the complex internal metal structure with sides in cast aluminum alternated with textured plastic sides that evoke other famous works by Ettore Sottsass, such as the 'Mobili Grigi' series designed for Poltronova. Details and buttons in hard colored plastic.
One of the features of this machine is precisely the craftsmanship of the ridged surface, which was not created for purely decorative reasons but also to better disguise the imperfections of the plastic casting.
Writing still occurs with the classic typewriter hammers, with the difference, compared to previous models, that these are moved by an internal electric motor.
The Italian version of the machine uses the QZERTY layout, although versions with different key arrangements have been produced depending on the language they were intended for.
Aesthetically preserved in excellent vintage condition, it has been thoroughly cleaned and is complete with all parts (including the electrical cable, the aluminum tag, and the original rubber feet).
There are normal signs due to age and use, as shown in the photos. No noteworthy defects to report.
I tried to power the machine, but I couldn't get it to start; however, I don't really know about these things, so it might be something simple. It's sold as untested, to be reviewed.
Incredible item suitable as a decor accessory or to include in your collection.
Measurements: 16.5 x 44 x 34 cm.
Weight: 9.2 kg.
