Description from the seller
Egg warmer with mask-shaped handles – Neoclassical glazed ceramic – Italy, early 19th century
Description
Egg holder with a ceramic lid in ivory-colored glazed ceramic, attributed to Italian manufacture from the early decades of the 19th century, an expression of the neoclassical style applied to serving objects.
The body, with balanced proportions and a compact profile, is characterized by the presence of side openings with female mascarons, modeled in relief with careful plasticity and inspired by classical iconography. The mascarons, decorative elements that are also functional, recall formal solutions widespread in furniture and applied arts from the early nineteenth century.
The upper edge is marked by a continuous beading, while the dome-shaped lid, topped with a central handle featuring a floral motif, displays stylized foliate friezes and light grooves, consistent with the neoclassical ornamental repertoire.
The interior displays distinct compartments compatible with the function of a thermal egg container, intended for table service in bourgeois and aristocratic homes. The ensemble highlights a successful synthesis between functional use and decorative quality, typical of the applied arts of the early nineteenth century.
Uncommon object, of notable formal elegance, suitable for a museum or private collection of historical ceramics. Originating from an important Tuscan residence.
